Re: Sold half on massive gains.. Congratulations - 'it's never wrong to take a profit'.contrast I've only just bought into this in the last few weeks and I'm feeling rather late to the party. Should have bought in 9 months, but kept prevaricating on whether commodities were genuinely recovering! Ho-hum.Let's hope the recovery has significantly further to go so there's still some profit left for the indecisive dullards like me.
Re: Sold half on massive gains.. Selling is always harder than buying so it's said, so it's good to have some rules and goals.I would see what happens when (hopefully) the move up continues to 430 and beyond. Previous trading range was 430-500 during 2013/14 before it went bad down to Jan 16. Right now progressing up the other side of the V and I think there could be a lot behind this for a while yet (bar any world shocks). The discount is still there and the div (although reduced) still relatively attractive at nearly 5%.I have been building monthly for the last few years with a view to long term commodities exposure and income generation later. So I will not sell yet even though I have a good profit - will keep a watch for stop loss in case things go bad again, or it moves to near NAV premium. But that's just my goals.az
Re: Sold half on massive gains.. Difficult, isn't it. "You never get poor taking a profit" competes with "Sell your losers, run your winners". So far resisting the temptation.
Re: Sold half on massive gains.. A sound move. I agree that there is more to be had. I might have trouble holding if the discount disappears, otherwise a no brainer buy and hold. Personally would be glad of a move down the 50d MA in order to buy some more.
Re: Sold half on massive gains.. Sorry.......meant "chap".....not "cap",
Re: Sold half on massive gains.. You are a very clever cap.
Sold half on massive gains.. This is clearly still undervalued. NAV is at a good discount and divi is solid. Its a no brainer - however I have a rule about 100% gains in that i always sell half and keep the rest as a freebie - just makes me feel good about my investment. Also the next 100% is likely to take 3 years. Anyway I stuffed the gains in a small comps investment trust (Throgmorten) at 16% discount and made 3% in a few days so happy with that.
Re: Recent Rise Looking at the chart the share price versus NAV for the last 10 years has always been roughly 10% -14% discount.
Re: Recent Rise True, but all depends on market sentiment and geo-political developments. No reason why the sp should not rise to a premium. I have often held ITs which are so and been happy with that.
Recent Rise The Rise in the share price continues unabated, but in the last week or so the share price has been rising whilst the NAV has been more or less steady. e.g. on 24th the closing share price was 372.25 and the NAV was 424.79.The share price is up over 20p since then, whilst the NAV is (yesterday) 6p lower. I suspect we may be in for a brief pause in the near future, whilst the discount reaches more consistent levels.

share price ...will it go beyond 450p anytime soon...say by June 2017..?I want it to and I can't see why it shouldn't...there is still 900p of relatively recenthistory which may mean that it will be severely undervalued at 450p.. xstar
Re: 50p below NAV Point well made, and appreciated, but that is yesterday's closing NAV, and the closing sp was 321.75, so not quite 50p; but comfortably over 10%.
