Coronavirus The travel restrictions and cancelled Lunar New Year celebrations could affect consumer spending. We also see reports of some calling for a travel ban to be imposed by President Trump. It looks like to me thatconsumers may well wait till the virus is under control before spending - when is the question?
Todays FT paper It seems today’s FT paper have not reported on B’s Q3 update. More interested in Ted Baker than B?
Buyback [link] One take on B - if £19 why buy shares at current £?
Buyback Yesterday 145k shares purchased by B; once the mandate is complete some in the City could take it as an opportunity to test B’s current low price.
Media headlines on virus The headlines in today’s papers re coronavirus and reports of a travel ban in Wuhan appear to be unsettling the market.
Trump sounding off Looks to me Trump wants an interim trade deal with EU before any re-election. Another period of ups on downs tied to Trump’s tweets, etc?
LVMH approach If you look at LVMH bid for Tiffany as guide for B, LVMH waited till Tiffany share price was below $100, so surely any bidder for B will wait till B is well below its £23.40 highest to date (2020) share price of last week? Logic says B is being out manoeuvre by the big boys, so why didn’t the big boys buy B at £12 or £18 years ago - why pay £20+? I can only assume they have better returns elsewhere?
Rumours of takeover Why buy B when it appears to be two person show, CEO & Creative Designer, cheaper to recruit the same than spend £10bn on B?
Share price set for below £20? Here we go again at the hands of some in the City
Stop buybacks and pay higher div I am very happy for you to express your views Stutes. Just wondered who was listening. Do you attend shareholder meetings or raise your concerns with the CEO? Cheers, Frog
Stop buybacks and pay higher div I am a shareholder so I’m exercising my freedom of speech, etc. I understand Brexit means an end to 4 freedoms but basic UK freedoms remain so please don’t indirectly attack my rights
Stop buybacks and pay higher div I avoid retail stocks and hence not a shareholder of burberry. I was just wondering what difference another of your moans will make when viewed by such a small audience. Frog
Stop buybacks and pay higher div Sad that you are so dismissive and happy to accept the status quo when you are a shareholder who has a vote and voice. It’s up to you to use it but don’t criticize others for exercising their rights of freedom of speech, etc.
Stop buybacks and pay higher div Do you think anyone is listening Stutes? Frog in a tree
Stop buybacks and pay higher div The dividend is paid 31st January but the buybacks are before - shareholders should be paid during same time of the buyback.
