Re: Santander poor fraud security system... It is my opinion based upon the fact that quite a number of people would have £20K in their current account. Most banks offer zero interest or a lower interest rate on a vastly lower maximum value. Also due to observing a number of stories in the newpapers about Santander customers, where you begin to see a pattern of how the fraud is carried out.Regards, WarrenGemini
Re: Santander poor fraud security system... you have stated this twice.Hmm, no you did not.No idea why I imagined that - apologies.
Re: Santander poor fraud security system... many 1-2-3 accounts contain large amounts of cash---------- ---------- -WGTurning way from the security issue, you have stated this twice.I'm interested - is this a fact with a ref you can provide, or is it just your opinion?Ta.
Re: Santander poor fraud security systems The ability to forge texts applies to all banks who use texts, this is not a specific issue to Santander. The reason Santander is being targeted specifically is because many 1-2-3 accounts contain large amounts of cash because of the high rates of interest on offer. Other banks offer less rich pickings. In almost all these cases people have had their online accounts compromised (either by social engineering or a virus on their PC) so the scammer has access to their account and have then been conned into authorising a new transaction payee by handing over the One Time Passcode received on a mobile to the scammer ringing up carrying out further social engineering.Regards, WarrenGemini
Re: Santander poor fraud security system... I blame the customer, read comments on article.---------- -----spikeYup, I read the article, thank you.Why do you think Id post a link if I hadnt bothered to read it myself?!I am realistic and know that there will always be a part to be played by the customer as well as a DM piece being hammed up for the reader.Yup, if you give your PIN and card number, then your stupidity. However, I am a Santander customer and I recently had a problem requiring me to phone them. They tell you not to tell anyone information, yet when they called me back, they demanded so much information it was ridiculous you could have made a good fist from the info to access my account. We have to answer security questions, of course, but there is a balance, and they went way past that balance. Maybe a one-off, but this was beyond what I have had deal with previously. I felt that I had continued with the call, then I was a fool and should not be surprised if I was hacked.I complained that there was not sufficient clarity between what I was expected to divulge to continue with a phone call and what should warn me to hang up. There is too much grey overlap between kosher questions and scamming questions. Santander should address this problem.I ended up going in person to a high street branch.I have several bank, B Soc etc accounts so am not a rookie with what goes on.It is just too easy for a customer to be scammed.Seems odd that hackers and scammers are targeting the bank if there are no weaknesses in their system. Certainly doesnt surprise me.
Re: Santander poor fraud security systems I blame the customer, read comments on article. If you gave your card and pin to someone they clean you out. Is the bank to blame?
Santander poor fraud security systems This is very disappointing to see. Santander clearly has poor security measures that need sorting out asap. How can their so called secure mobile phone texts be unreliable? That IS the security measure ffs.At the very least this is providing unnecessarily dire customer relations and and a seriously damaging effect on their image."Santander has told them it is under no obligation to contact customers or stop payments even if they look suspicious""In all the cases sent to us, Santander blames the customer for negligence""Victims are being sent fake texts that are almost indistinguishable from genuine messages they have received from Santander;"[link]
Re: I'm Out Hi, El Kel and your response was enlightening about Ms Botin. I hadn't "got into" personalities but will now pay more attention. Not sure where lambrini disappeared but I think I saw someone's post on an iii discussion that "she" had got chucked off for something offensive. I always wondered if lambrini was a kinda reincarnation of another "uppity" gal calling herself worsleybird (who also disappeared after being very boastful on these boards)..
Re: I'm Out there was quite an altercation between El Kel and lambrini girl about sp forecasting. In fact I (though not a shareholder at that time) responded to lambrini girl on 21/1/2016 with..."Nice One,lg. Do you forecast our next President too, lg? "You know the rest....Santander has shot up from 280 to 470+ and we got tRumpo in the White House ---------- ---------- --Morning djForecast the next president, eh? Seems like a long time ago that we were laughing about DT getting in oh my.I'd forgotten about girl. An unpleasant little poster. The handle that was ig was probably a bloke anyway using the common social media cover of a woman to try and appear softer. And also probably one of the multiples No doubt shell be back at some point with her billy b u llsh ite.If the sp had gone down to somewhere she forecast, wed never have heard the end of it.But, as nearly always, the sp went elsewhere because no-one can predict an sps future for too long. They may have some luck along the way, but it always runs out.Been watching bnc constantly if for no other reason than one of many gauges of where European banks are going. The main reason is that I admire Ms Botin and have a lot of respect for her helmsmanship and acumen.Clearing out the legion variations of accounts Santander were offering and only having a few (ten was it?) was a masterstroke. As was the 123 account, which bolstered the number of account holders massively, and having Jess Ennis-Hill as the poster girl.Botin has a humility about her that no other top of the tree banker Ive seen can manage.Ive made a few trades along the way and enjoyed some profit but, I confess, no biggies as I have been cautious.I still have various core holdings from 2014 (circa 530s) which, as of today, make them seem like proper investments (well, for a bank share!) as they are showing a decent return after taking the not inconsiderable divs and additional share allocations into account.I shall continue to hold while Ms Botin has her hand on the tiller.
Re: I'm Out Guru - it looks like you are approaching your target at £5. Santander's real star has been their Brazilian subsidiary , BSBR (NYSE) which made it from $4 to $11.75 in the 10 months to February this year. I was scared of it cos of the scandals and impeachment going on in the Brazilian Govt so I kept clear. Hindsight is a wonderful thing innit?
Re: I'm Out Well done for making money on banking shares, even if they are Spanish ones!As always, go with your 'own' instincts and importantly do your own research.Regards, M.G.
Re: I'm Out Considering just how much may have been earned via this Company's share price it's amazing how little has been posted here over time. I've scanned the archives here and there was quite an altercation between El Kel and lambrini girl about sp forecasting. In fact I (though not a shareholder at that time) responded to lambrini girl on 21/1/2016 with..."Nice One,lg. Do you forecast our next President too, lg? "You know the rest....Santander has shot up from 280 to 470+ and we got tRumpo in the White House However the then discussions motivated me to buy into both Santander & BBVA (through my US broker) so I've done okay by them to date . At least I didn't get "brexitted"like UK bank shares.
Re: I'm Out Yes, I hold my hand up - sold out too soon, which was silly of me because I called this break out a few days ago. Anyway, it's impossible to get the timing right all the time. I made 12% on BNC which I'm happy with. I'll be back in when the price is less toppy. Banks tend to follow the economy which I think (as does the Chancellor) will have a rough time over next 2 years.Good luck all.
Re: I'm Out Doug,I think you're out too soon; but fair play, you've valid reasons for exiting the banking sector. I'm handing around for a bit longer to see £5 a share, and will probably exit shortly after that.Best of luck.Regards, M.G.
I'm Out OK - so I'm out now. Sold at 468 ... having bought in January 2015 at ... 468. I'm now finally free of all banks having ditched BARC, LLOY and HSBC in past few months. Got plenty of cash now and looking for a safe haven while Brexit storms brew. Good Luck to you all.
