Re: Congo Copper LKH'Heart of darkness, m8. I hope Ivan knows what he's doin' ... not that I give a monkeys one way or t'other as I don't hold GLEN and never would.'Seem to sorting their finances out with a diversified business and no strike........at the momentI can't complain after having fun trading GLEN the shares held since early May last year are currently 110% up.Was doing the same with BHP until it jumped out of my trading range. Always a danger in a rising market when trading shares that should be held.

BHP shutting down Escondida copper mine I assume this is what has caused the BHP and RIO SP to drop today [link] 1-BHP begins halting operations at Chilean copper mine -unionFeb 8 BHP Billiton Plc has begun halting operations at its Escondida copper mine in northern Chile, the world's largest, ahead of a planned strike on Thursday, a union leader told Reuters on Wednesday. The company has said it plans to stop production at the mine during a strike, which the union has warned could be lengthy, potentially affecting global supplies of a metal used in everything from construction to telecommunications.

Re: Sold out Games.I've been building a position in Next from the low £50s to my latest buy this morning at £38.xxAlong with BP and RDSB, it's my largest holding (closely followed by BLT and RIO).Whilst there may be more bad times ahead, I figure it's worth holding purely for income. The divs (inc specials) are around 9%, so it seems pretty unlikely that I will be underwater after 5-years.People get scared, whereupon they tend to get stupid. That's my interpretation of NXT.That said, I like a gamble.

Re: Sold out "Sold @1417"I must admit my 2% holding in RIO-BHP-GLEN are all in the black and some, but look incredibly toppy of late.Has anybody here looked in depth at Next, which is half price compared to it's peak yet despite the sales declines is hugely profitable still.Games - looking at Next, not heavily exposed to retail.

Re: Sold out Uncle Doug,Good luck, m8. A reasonable enough approach on your part. For my part I'm staying on board for the ride, both with my miners (BLT, RIO, ANTO and S32) and oiler (RDSB). They're only 10.3% of the old wad between 'em and anyhoo I don't rate my own ability to be able to read short term tea leaves.LKH on the flybridge

Sold out Sold @1417. Could be the wrong call but I'm now out of all my oilers and miners and nearly all bankers. I'm now 40% in cash as I see prices across the board too high IMHO. I'm gonna wait and see what a b@llsup is made by the combined talents of Trump, May and the Brexit bunch before piling back in (at better value / lower prices) some time in the future. Or maybe I'll just buy a new Range Rover. Adiós amigos.GLA

NEW ARTICLE: Market's favourite mining stock "At the beginning of 2016, the fate of the miners looked set. Exaggerated concerns that China's economy was grinding to a halt amid a severe supply glut caused commodity prices to crash. However, the mining sector was about to embark on a mammoth ..."[link]

Too early to sell? The fundamentals of this company look dreadful, yet the stock has doubled from lows in 2016 -- is this all blind hope on the commodities futures expectation, or is there real substance here?If this has any weight, it does trade at 50% of it's net asset value, but isn't this close to normal for a miner with negative real returns?Even if it hits a £6BN profit in June 2017, that still puts the borrowings at almost 5 times.Still with £60Bn in assets I suppose they can still carry on selling stuff - assuming there are buyers and not just looters at a low price.Games - Given that I'm now 25% up on my buy price, """Should I stay or should I go aha""" --- [link]

Re: NEW ARTICLE: Chart of the week: Sell a m... all looks like nonsense to moi.The Fibonacci reference looks almost bizarre -- there is nothing there other than a line pointing upwards and nothing to suggest it won't go higher. It's ridiculous to look at any one point on one of these charts and suggest that there is anything unique about any one of the very many slight turning down points on the chart. If you look at the first chart presented here, you can count 8 points where the stock started to trend down. On a more micro level analysis there are literally hundreds of momentary turning points.I doubt you will make any more money this way than throwing darts at a board.Games
