Re: What have I missed? Could be a good time to invest but...........................Ex-divMarket downResources down - copper, gold, silver oil, etcI doubt the strike has had much additional impact as no change. BHP hit more heavily today than other similar companies because ex-div, that is about it.
Re: What have I missed? Every mining share in the FTSE 350 down this morning possibly linked to fall in USD against most currencies (but not GBP). Falling mental prices e.g. copper:[link]
Re: What have I missed? LHK,Maybe...... then again there always seems to be a strike going on or in the pipeline somewhere. Don't know, much lower and I might have a (very) speculative pop at it.Regards,ITDYA
Re: What have I missed? ITDYA,Dunno, m8. ? gloom over Escondida strike mebbe.LKH etc
Re: What have I missed? I know ex-div but that's only 33p(ish)... anything else or just commodity jitters?
What have I missed? Something happened... anyone any clues?Regards,ITDYA
Re: BHP shutting down Escondida copper m... Here is the latest from bloomberg.....................[link] to Mackenzie speak - guy comes across very well in my opinion.
Re: BHP shutting down Escondida copper m... Here is the latest on the Escondida strike.........[link]
Glencore results also look good - with a better than expected profit and a bigger reduction in debt than forecast :-[link] if you are not a Glencore fan, this seems good news for the sector. All three seem to be on the up.Games - holding on to my very small exposure 2.5% in industrial commodities -- oh plus some gold.
Re: BHP shutting down Escondida copper m... Escondida strike - Interesting strategy from BHP. It would be interested to know what promises the unions made in 2014 to facilitate the $49000 bonus and other terms negotiated without strike action. BHP are not for moving and now trying to outflank. [link]
Re: H1 Results LKH"Am I correct in thinking that the prospective full year BLT divi is US$0.14 plus US$0.40 equals US$0.54?"Presumably this is based on last year's finals, I think it could/should be higher, applying the payout policy of minimim 50% of earnings which they chose to exceed for interims. They could chose to apply that over FY to cut back on finals - but presumably only if they have to. Looks like it could be returning to a decent dividend payer. (should have guessed that when I shifted it out of my ISA!)H2 Our minimum 50 per cent dividend payout policy equates to 30 US cents per share. In recognition of the importance of shareholder returns and confidence in the Companys performance, the Board has determined to pay an additional amount of 10 US cents per share, takingthe overall interim dividend to 40 US cents per share.
Re: H1 Results H2,Yeah, all looks pretty good to me. This sentence was encouraging both so far as BLT was concerned and with regard to my holdings of RDSB and ANTO:"We are confident in the long-term outlook for our commodities, particularly oil, with markets expected to rebalance in the near-term, and copper where we expect a deficit to emerge in the early 2020s."I see that the Jansen potash mine is 64% complete so far as the shaft and minehead utilities are concerned. I still worry that it will be a white elephant but I s'pose that, as more and more of the capex is spent, they might just as well pudge away and get it finished. Once the capital is sunk it should produce positive cash flow provided the opex and maintenance capital are below the potash price. The further ahead BLT gets with Jansen the more I fear that Sirius Minerals' project in Yorkshire will struggle to produce a decent equity return for SXX shareholders ... of which I am not one.Am I correct in thinking that the prospective full year BLT divi is US$0.14 plus US$0.40 equals US$0.54?LKH on the flybridge
H1 Results Looks like BLT have well exceeded expectations, EPS 60c, Dividend 40c. 4-traders had 68c and 42c as the full year forecasts.Debt down from $26b to 20 b, Gearing 24.3% Vs 30.3$1.2 Bn prodctivity gains in the half rising to 1.8bn FYFCF 5.8bn Strike and outcome of proceedings in Brazil are the forward risks but it looks pretty positive for the open to me.H2
Re: BHP shutting down Escondida copper m... Strike talks fail....................[link] appear to be exerting control here - perhaps the mindless vandalism to their equipment carried out by a gang of 300+ misguided individuals was a strategic mistake.Copper price will no doubt fly tomorrow, as it did today.
Re: Congo Copper "Heart of darkness, m8"Interesting, I read Conrad's book when I was in my late teens and I found it a bit of chore at the time, being mostly interested in booze, woman, football, rugby and having a good time -- well youth eh!! (not much has changed really)Couple of months ago I took a Motorcycle around Vietnam and watched the Apocalypse Now film again. I hadn't really registered with it on the first viewing and it frightened the life out of me when you dig into the real meaning of it all.Vietnam has a brutal history and one I hope we all never see the parallel of here in Blighty!!Games -- just hanging on to a small % of my wad in Glencore - I may lean on the red button at any time now and say good bye, however, it may have a long way to go given that it's rattled it's debt down below the fear gauge, and the sentiment towards miners is all lovely again.
