Lower Bollinger bounce? It's beginning to look like a good buy time again, Stochastics and MACD are looking oversold...And the lower Bollinger has traditionally provided strong support...... which is where we are now[link]

Re: BBZA strategy I have sold out my holding for a healthy profit. Good luck to those holding I am getting nervous

BBZA strategy BB Biotech aims to achieve an average annual double-digit return over the long term, thus outperforming the broad market indices by a significant margin. BB Biotech invests worldwide in fast growing companies developing and marketing innovative biotech drugs. At least 90% of its shareholdings must be in listed companies. Positions in emerging-market biotech companies will be taken on a selective basis.BB Biotech invests in fast-growing biotechnology companies that are developing and marketing innovative drugs. It focuses on biotech companies whose products address areas of significant unmet medical needs and that are generating above-average sales and profit growth. With an aggregate weighting of more than 90%, listed companies account for most of its portfolio investments. BB Biotech has also taken a stake in the structural growth opportunities that emerging markets offer. We seek a thorough understanding of the activities pursued by our participations, i.e., not only the purely financial aspects of the business, but also the respective competitive environment, the innovation pipeline, patent portfolios and the market perception of each company’s products and services, to name only a few other aspects. The target portfolio of BB Biotech will generally consist of 20 to 35 participations. Large positions will be taken in five to eight companies, the top holdings. Together they will account for no more than two-thirds of the portfolio and no single position will have a weighting greater than 25% of portfolio investments. Due to their substantial portfolio weighting, in general the top holdings should be generating both revenues and income. The portfolio’s smaller participations are companies with promising drug candidates in their R&D pipelines. BB Biotech has deliberately chosen not to construct a portfolio of statistical relevance as it attaches importance to the depth of sector and company expertise and seeks personal access to the management of our equity interests. The asset classes BB Biotech can invest in are stocks, equity interests in unlisted companies, corporate bonds and options on a range of underlying assets. BB Biotech invests its capital in stocks for liquidity and risk/reward reasons. Investments in private companies can account for up to 10% of the portfolio. These positions will have a higher weighting when stock market performance is positive over a prolonged period. Corporate bonds are a suitable investment when stock market trends are negative. Options on the stocks of portfolio companies are bought and sold at opportune times and as a means of hedging currency exposure.from BBZA websiteSAGE

Re: Buying opportunity RustyI also have holdings of BIOG and IBTSAGE

Re: Buying opportunity I have a holding of BBZA , which i purchased in several stages, in my ISA;where it can be held, as it is a european stock listed on the Frankfurt stock exchange. The advantage of BBZA strategy is that they have a narrow portfolio concentrated on out-performers.SAGE

Re: Buying opportunity BBZA is a bit off the radar for most investors as it is not listed on the LSE .I first got to know of it a couple of years ago , but could not see how it would outperform BIOG .I see that it has done very well in the last 12 - 18 months or so , but a decent amount has been due to the big reduction in the discount to NAV .BBZA can only be traded offshore , and it has little coverage in the UK . Obviously , it is a worthwhile Biotech investment vehicle , and would get more of a following if it was listed in the UK .In the long run , I still believe BIOG will outperform the other options , as it has done in the past .

Re: Buying opportunity Thanks again Rusty....and down another 3% at the time of my writing this.I'll start watching the S&P500

Rusty Jock 26 Mar 2015

Re: Buying opportunity The reversal from last weeks high in mid 800s has been quick . But then again the jump up from the mid 700s to the high was equally as quick . The volatilty in BIOG is often at the extreme , but over the longer term the share has done better than any other Biotech fund or IT . The ups and downs present ttrading opportunities , but the long term hold option has also worked very well .The Nasdaq Biotech index has also pulled back sharply which is a reflection of profit taking after the March run up to new highs . The US Biotech share prices just got ahead too quickly .I can see the volatilty continuing , but for me the index to watch is the S&P500 which has traded down to support. If the S&P500 breaks down this week , we could easily see a bit of a correction on a broader basis .I think we need to see the S&P500 stabilise above current levels before adding new positions in the Biotech sector .

Buying opportunity Ok, I did not expect this to retrace as quickly as it has. Time to pick your collective brains. The question is - do you think this is now a time to buy?.... Hopefully the link below works....[link] thoughts in support of buying:1) Trendline ... there is a decent support trendline connecting the lows in October, February and March (not shown, but I'm sure you guys can see what I mean) ... the SP is at the trendling2) The SP is nearing the 50EMA which typically provides supportHowever... 1) I would be happier if the Stochastics, RSI and MACD were oversold, rather than retracing from the overbought positions of last week...2) Historically the lower Bollinger provides good support, we are north of the lower BollingerSo this is less clear cut than my last post when I said I was buying... however I do think this could be a good buying position. .. , my suspicion is we may see some consolidation around this level for a few weeks. But what do I know?!?

Re: holland44 - SEC Cheers guys for the posts. I was basing the decision purely on the following chart... historically the 26MA (weekly chart) is a good time to buy SEC....[link]

cimbom 23 Mar 2015

Re: holland44 - SEC SEC: Edison report says: "Portfolio companies are forecast to achieve strong earnings growth in 2015 and the manager sees M&A activity as a potential source of incremental performance. The manager also highlights a promising pipeline of potential investment opportunities."I feel the key word in this statement is "incremental". There are a large number of very promising companies and when subjected to a merger or acquisition (M&A) there will be, not huge but incremental step changes in valuations. Therefore, it is possible and likely that the discount may still have sharp movements towards a premium or have the lowest downside of up to 20% discount for a bottom league small company trust. I think SEC is more promising than BIOG at present.
