Re: fall in share price You are quite right. I think it was a momentary glitch on the iii site that showed BATS recovering. It didn't though. Let's hope it does. I'm optimistic and am a long term holder.
Re: fall in share price Other big consumer stocks - DGE,ULVR,RB also had significant falls today on the back of increased sterling strength so added to the Reynolds deal the BAT fall is no big surprise. Thisis a very useful entry point imho
Re: fall in share price Gravy, "In the end it closed up on the day"I have to say that confused me and intrigued me. The thread started because BAT (whose Discussion Board we are on) had fallen steeply today. The comment to which you replied said Imperial was also down. So as the only 2 companies mentioned were BAT & Imperial, I wonder what the "It" is in your post?I am intrigued because according to ii BAT were down 3.83% & Imperial were down 2.53%; so neither of those closed up on the day. What did?As for the earlier question - as BAT fell significantly further than Imps I think part of the reason for the fall was the deal, Otherwise I'm guessing it comes back to Mrs May's speech and the effect that had. The pound strengthened which is bad for both companies; and maybe the prospect of a significant reduction in free trade hit all exporters.
Re: fall in share price In the end it closed up on the day after gyrations
fall in share price Imperial brands also fell. The deal is not the reason for the fall.Any ideas as to,why tobaccos fell?
Re: Reynolds bid goes ahead What an interesting day. BAT started as one of the biggest climbers in the market and ends as one of the biggest fallers. The strengthening pound may be some of the reason, but I'm sure the main reason is the Reynolds Take Over. I doubt anyone thinks that BAT & Reynolds joining into one is anything other than a good move. So I assume there was initial euphoria that the deal was going through without hassle; then as people analysed the deal, they concluded that BAT were over paying. Of course the serious movers should have analysed the deal before markets opened, so its hard to explain the complete turn round, Also the strengthening £ actually makes the deal cheaper if anything.I suspect (unless there is some hold up in the deal) this will be a temporary set back & the revised BAT will carry on from strength to strength.
Re: Reynolds bid goes ahead BAT has upped its bid to $29.44 and lowered the share element to just over half a BAT share, overall up from $47b to c$49.4.The market seems to like it, up a bit this am, rather than the mid Jan bloodbath confidently predicted here only a couple of months ago.

Re: Reynolds "Is Woody losing his touch?"well he has been selling down his holding in Reynolds over the last 6 months.I guess it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out this was always a possibility, given the 42% holding BAT already holds, and the fact that they took steps to maintain that high holding when Reynolds acquired Lorillard.BATS will buy it, they just have to pay more --- kerchunnng!!Games -- BATs is starting to look cheap, given the 5600 target on it's head -- well that is abroker(s) target, pinch of salt maybe!! I might buy some of this!!
Re: Reynolds Wow! -LK ; a person of your amazing insight and perspecacity but with no position in BAT.As a humble supplicant I can only hug myself and wonder how I was so fortunate to beginaccumulating these some twelve years ago. A recent dip of £8 a share - drop in the ocean which I scarcely notice. As for Nige - ha! blxxdy ha!! eat your heart out.
