Sort Times - Bullish Mr Soriot defended the results of the Mystic trial, claiming that additional results next year would show whether the drug had prolonged patients’ survival overall. “You take risks . . . some things work, other things don’t work,” he said. “We are still on track to deliver the goals we set ourselves.”He said: “I think it is too early to conclude Mystic is not positive,” he said. The Mystic results were announced alongside positive results from a separate phase-III trial called Flaura for another lung cancer drug, Tagrisso.Astra also announced a global collaboration with Merck to develop Astra’s Lynparza drug for other cancers. The news failed to lift the shares, and with second-quarter results yesterday showing an 8 per cent decline in revenue to $5.05 billion, Mr Soriot insisted there would be “a lot more good news”.“I’m sure over time this will be reflected in our market valuation.”[link]

Mr Soriot Defiant - Times Mr Soriot struck a defiant tone, saying: “Today’s updates show we’re delivering on our strategy, with a financial performance in line with expectations and continued pipeline momentum. Despite the outcome of the initial readout, we must be patient as the Mystic trial continues as planned to evaluate overall survival. Also in lung cancer, we’re delighted with the strong results from the Flaura trial for Tagrisso, which goes from strength to strength. Alongside this, we are excited about our strategic collaboration with Merck that will maximise the potential of Lynparza as a backbone of many combinations.”[link]

Re: I wonder if .... According to The Guardian, he still might go. Is there an opposite to "Golden Handcuffs" , when you pay another company a large sum of money to take a CEO off your hands? These state of denial comments , regarding further trials, can hardly be based on fact . Should a CEO be speculating about such things in the first place if he needs market confidence based on reality ?

Re: I wonder if .... 'It's rather impressive that they managed to keep the lid on the failure until the official announcement was made. There must have been a lot of people who knew that the tabs were useless some time ago, no?'maybe clutching at straws but the trial aint yet over

Re: NEW ARTICLE: Woodford dealt AstraZeneca ... "Cantor Fitzgerald remains a supporter of AstraZeneca's strategy, despite the Mystic disappointment and the impact of competitive and pricing pressures on the company's diabetes and respiratory drug portfolio. The broker has retained its 'buy' rating and said progress with the new oncology products Lynparza and Tagrisso was often overlooked."This a more balanced view in my opinion. Market overreaction IMO.M

I wonder if .... .... the rumours last week about Sorry Hat leaving for Tel Aviv should have alerted people at that time to the increased likelihood that the lung cancer trial would be a flop? After all, if it had been a runaway success he would have defo wanted to hang around as AZN CEO to demonstrate what a crash hot tab designer he is and how right he was to tell Pfizer to take a hike and rub their noses in it.Whatever! It's rather impressive that they managed to keep the lid on the failure until the official announcement was made. There must have been a lot of people who knew that the tabs were useless some time ago, no?LKH on the flybridge

bonkers overreaction Not all drugs work, not all are safe, that's why they have to be tested. And while they're being tested there's always the chance they'll discover an effect even more useful than the one they were hoping for. Why are you bailing out of the shares you pathetic weeds? Alexander Fleming didn't give up when his staphylococcus cultures went mouldy. He discovered penicillin instead. If he'd been a weed like you lot 90% of us would be dead by now.
