Price rise Above average volume lately, although not huge in the grand scheme of things and the price has risen a long way off its lows. I would be quite pleased if it was the Directors buying in as they called the top pretty accurately when they sold so it might signify that they're also calling the bottom.Anyway it's nice that this is not looking quite so dismal in my SIPP at the moment, I just hope it continues.
Results - Better Than I Expected The results weren't too bad given the first half performance. They still have net cash although they expect to make a loss this year too. This is a quality company with a great reputation, the cyclical upturn has to come at some point.Although I've put these as a strong buy I won't be buying any more shares as I have all I want and my average price is about 3p so plenty of upside their come the next peak of the cycle.
Re: Value Proposition I agree, and as a long-time investor i would!, but i don't see them as a particular target for anyone coming from outside UK, and architects are a different kettle of fish to consulting engineers (being Client-specific and subject to property market vagaries even more). I wouldn't have classed Waterman as specialists either, they were run-of-mill engineers and the Japanese interest has come from left field, all competitors in the marketplace confirm. But note the changes at WYG this week, and also record AMEC being subsumed this month, there's certainly liveliness in the marketplace. Private capital in America has recently bought into (taken over) a large firm there, TRC, so consolidation isn't unsurprising (eg. Atkins, the biggest in UK, but susceptible), but a small firm like Aukett? I'll need at least 5p to be above water with these again in my SIPP, but i do recall getting 16p on an earlier 4p holding decades ago, before Fitzroy Robinson came on board, let alone Swanke
Value Proposition My thoughts:[link] target price.
Good contrarian play I think these are worth buying more of based on a cyclical upturn in their fortunes. Ok so the first half of this year isn't going to be great but they have made substantial profits in the past and must be on a low multiple of average profit for the last 4 or 5 years.I just hope they elect to pay a small dividend at the AGM.
Shankland Cox Good firm, well thought of in UAE when i was working there. Substantial size and market positioning. Only doubt i have is this coincides with an article in Independent yesterday about apartments not being built out in Dubai in 2016, as the market cools again... i'd topped up AUK last week on a minor basis, long-time holding, so DYOR
Re: Disappointed I agree that the results were excellent. However Aukett is a small cap stock and not on many watch lists. I am hopeful there will be an upswing when those few who follow the sector have digested the results.Keep the faith!
Disappointed I'm disappointed at the muted reaction to an excellent set of results. Does this company really only deserve a p/e of 7? The balance sheet is rock solid with net cash. I know the markets are not great at the moment but plenty of other companies seem to rise on positive news.
Re: NEW ARTICLE: Trends and Targets for 5/08... What a load of b**cks this article is. "We don;t know what the firm does, but the graphs say this.." it's in Construction, which has cyclical peaks and troughs related to the Industry (and Housebuilding as a sideline has deeper cycles!). Have held this since the early 90's, gone through buy and sell phases, and it's one of my best bankers. But currently just treading water, and will continue to do so until the next commercial up (or down) cycle in its Client side. Or an acquisition...
