Re: My small holding SH - Your 'sign-off' note has been written with both the candour and eloquence we have come to expect from you.I think, in truth, many LTH's probably harbour very similar thoughts to those you have expressed. You certainly struck a chord with many of my own sentiments. My own investment in ATYM is also now little more than a curiousity to ensure I see how it all pans out - that in itself probably exposes my own biggest flaw in my approach to investing, particularly on AIM.All the very best SH - this BB will be all the poorer for your absence - and thank you for your absolutely Sterling input over the years.Rgds.B
Large buyer Interesting that someone is picking up all the loose stock today. So far they have picked up 80,000 shares at 165p. 3 buys of 10,000 20,000 and 50,000 all look like same buyer.Surprised the price hasn't moved, however I suspect it will once they are finished.Trouble is I'm not sure which way.LFG
Oligopoly I appreciate all of your fantastic research SmallHolding & wish you well .We share an interest in Val,(although as a LTH I remain a fair amount away from profits there) & I wish you success with all you invest in.I retain a fairly large holding here & having bought more around 130p last year I have sold a few to fund other speculative purchases ( & wished I had sold more)Unfortunately as Emed the company was run as Harrys pet project & now it is being brilliantly managed for the benefit of our 4 major shareholders & very little regard is given to other investors , especially we poor oppressed PIs.Currently I dont see any of our big investors breaking rank to bid for ATYM ( although Trafigura could be tempted at some point with view to Touro, our expansion & "secret" additional reserves).I will continue to hold although selling occasionally as better opportunities arise in the hope the CU will continue to strengthen,Alberto continues performing brilliantly & ,eventually, value will be outed - although I too may,by then ( & if still alive) have a very low holding.
My small holding This is a post that I didnt think I would ever be writing. I have seen people post over the years asking, who is selling at these prices?Well I dont know who they all are but I certainly have been one of them for a couple of months now. I did hold too many shares here but I now have only 3,000 and they have only been kept for novelty value, having been here forever I want to see how this ends. The fund raising was the final straw for me, after considering all finance options they went again down the equity route. Some might say they had to because taking on debt would trigger the Astor payment. However, I was told by the company that they could raise finance through debt as long as it was through the parent company, Atalaya Mining. As long as the debt was not raised by the Spanish subsidiary it wouldnt trigger the Astor payment.Anyway, they went down the equity route and they wanted £39m but only got £31m, such an amazing under valued company could not get interest in its fund raising. The truth is PIs have been supporting this share price for years; nobody else wants to buy them.Astor has been an absolute disaster for small investors, without that dispute the share price might have been far higher. Remember, in February 2018 they will have been in commercial production for two years!!!If Touro gets approval, and I think it will, they will say that they are considering the full gambit of finance options, then surprise, surprise they will decide to go yet again down the equity route. The saviour for investors here could be a copper shortage but that has nothing to do with Atalaya, the plain truth is there are far better investments out there, without all the baggage that Atalaya carries. The acid test is when you ask yourself, where will the share price be in 12 months time? With Astor dragging on into H2 2018, then raising funds for Touro, then actually paying Astor back at some point, I cant see dividends anytime soon.As that is probably the only thing that will attract outside investors I think the upside this year is limited.I did hope one day the LTHs might all get together and celebrate our good fortune with Atalaya over a couple of beers, lots of back slapping and congratulations. That may yet happen but I very much doubt it.I sincerely hope that all investors in Atalaya eventually get their reward but after 10 years here with nothing but depression and worry, I have had enough. My advice to any holders who feel their holding is too large and they are losing sleep over this investment would be, pick your moment when any good news is released, then sell until your holding is at a level that you are comfortable with.I have reached that point now and my holding here is more of a sideshow than the main event. If anyone thinks I am trying to talk the share price down to buy back in again they are very much mistaken, if the shares were £1.30 I would still not be interested. As an investor you want the share price to rise and/or receive dividends, with Atalaya you get neither. This is the biggest single loss that I have ever taken in about 40 years of share buying. Thankfully, since I decided to get out, VRS and VAL have provided some relief with big gains, offsetting my losses here.More importantly though, I am enjoying the share game again, holding this share is like going to the dentist everyday. As I still have a small holding I will keep an eye on developments from a distance but, on the plus side, I wont be boring share holders with my ramblings here anymore. GLA
Norway - Electric cars Financial Times: More than half of all new cars sold in Norway last year were electric or hybrid, making the Nordic country the first in the world to reach the landmark.
Re: LME Dec 2017 avearge copper price $3... RoverbillNo I don't know what price Atalaya get for their copper concentrate, I doubt anyone outside the company knows the full breakdown. All investors can do is accept the figures they are given and take the realised copper price at face value. We know, price wise, Atalaya are a few months behind the current copper price because of the delay from getting the order to actually delivering the copper. It is the AISC that I am more concerned about
Things which may affect copper price in 2018 [link]
Interesting article! [link] like this bit:-While gold and other precious metals are set to face headwinds from rising interest rates, the outlook for industrial metals such as copper is boosted by expectations of faster global growth and supply disruptions. A nascent electric-vehicle boom augers well for nickel, Tretter said.
Re: LME Dec 2017 avearge copper price $3.08 S.H. Do you know what price ATYM are getting for copper in concentrate This would give us an idea as to what profits they are making If the copper price holds up we could even be payed a dividend next year. If so I could see the share price doubling in the next 12 month Bill
2018 Could copper be king? www.fastmarkets.com/base-metals-news/americas/2018-preview-will-lead-outshine-zinc-will-strikes-send-copper-soaring/Could supply disruptions make copper king?Nearly 40 labor contracts are due for renewal according to Barclays Capital analysts, involving production for more than 7 million tonnes of copper the highest level since 2008.Growing supply concerns surrounding the consistency of output across South America [can] draw the metal price higher, John Meyer, analyst at SP Angel, said. With a vast number of labor contracts up for renewal in the New Year, threats of strikes loom large for 2018 copper, he added.Meyer added that the list of potential disruptions includes some of the worlds largest copper mines, with state-owned Codelco negotiating 19 contracts alone.Alongside this, Escondida, which had a 44-day strike in 2017, is set to hold its union talks in June, which could be of huge significance for the copper price.Complicating things further, a new Chilean labor law prohibits a worsening in the terms of existing contracts and replacing workers during a strike, Edward Meir of INTL FCStone said.So all in all, despite the fact that 2018 will unlikely see the two biggest copper mines being offline (as was the case in 2017) there still remains a thicket of negotiations to get through and still quite a large tonnage that could potentially be tied up, he added. The three-month copper price climbed to a high of $7,177 per tonne in October 2017 soaring an impressive 31.6% since the start of the year. Analysts predict the price could hit above $7,500 per tonne in 2018 with INTL FCStone predicting a peak of $7,550 per tonne.
LME Dec 2017 avearge copper price $3.08 Despite all the turbulence with the copper price in December 2017, the LME average copper price came in at $3.0850.The October LME average was $3.0852 and the November average $3.0960.Giving a Q4 2017 average of $3.089The figures for the year wereQ1 average price $2.64Q2 average price $2.56Q3 average price $2.88Q4 average price $3.08(2017 LME average copper price £2.79)Whilst many have tried to talk down the copper price throughout the year, the price has been steadily rising. At the time of writing the copper price is $3.26/lbAtalaya must surely be making a $1/lb profit at these prices
China top copper producer halts production www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-12-26/china-s-top-copper-producer-halts-output-after-pollution-orderChina Top Copper Producer Halts Output After Pollution Order Jiangxi Coppers curbs in province to last at least a week Follows similar halt at Chinas No. 2 smelter earlier in Dec.Copper Hits Three-Year High as China Cuts BackJiangxi Copper Co., Chinas largest producer, is halting all output in the province after the local government ordered the curbs to reduce pollution, a company official said Tuesday. The smelter received the order on Monday evening to stop production for at least a week before a further assessment based on local pollution levels, the official said, asking not to be identified because of company rules. The firm, which has 1.02 million metric tons of annual capacity in the southeastern province, remains in talks with the government to halt only smelting and not refining operations to minimize losses, according to the official.China is intensifying its campaign against air pollution by extending its winter manufacturing curbs in 28 northern cities to other provinces. Tongling Nonferrous Metals Group Co., the nations second-largest copper producer, said earlier this month that its halting as much as 30 percent of smelting capacity at its main production hub in the eastern province of Anhui after a similar order.Calls to the Jiangxi provincial government and environmental protection bureau werent answered Tuesday. The cuts come as Chinas smelters plan to resume talks with overseas miners on 2018 processing fees next month. The output curbs would reduce smelters demand for concentrate and support their position in the annual negotiations.Copper on the Shanghai Futures Exchange surged as much as 0.8 percent to 55,160 yuan a ton before trading at 55,080 yuan as of 1:50 p.m., extending gains from the the highest close in two months on the prospect of improving global demand amid supply constraints.
Shares Magazine [link] TRIO OF MINERS BRACED FOR BIG EVENTSThe mining sector is full of companies hoping to hit milestones in their career during 2018. Among them is gold miner Avesoro Resources (ASO:AIM) which is rejigging an existing project in Liberia and buying two mines in Burkina Faso.Merchant bank Hannam & Partners believes several consecutive quarters of profitable production from the New Liberty mine in Liberia and the Burkina Faso operations could lead to a re-rating of Avesoros share price.Vast Resources (VAST:AIM) is to reopen the Baita Plai polymetallic underground mine in Romania. It is currently waiting on a mining licence and should be able to start production approximately six months after that event has happened. In Spain, Atalaya Mining (ATYM:AIM) is to start work on an 80m expansion project, upgrading the processing facility at its Proyecto Riotinto copper mine. Construction will start in 2018 and the whole project should be up and running in early 2020."
Re: Copper price roverbill, its nice to see that the share price has for once reacted to the buoyant copper price. It would be even nicer if it was approaching the £3 mark I would have expected with the copper price sitting where it is at the moment.
