This weeks AMS report in INV. CHRON. Comment:Broker Numis has upgraded its forecasts for the year to December 2017 and now expects pre-tax profit of £22.8m, giving EPS of 8.8p ( from £19.7m in FY2016 )Also:The shares change hands at 27 times forward earnings, which is actually cheaper than where the stock was trading last September. With healthy cash flows and a strong balance sheet, AMS is in a good position to bulk up its offering with an acquisition. As the shares ride the upgrade cycle we move to a BUY
Re: BB20 250p beckoning Thank you for the comments about the product line. As far as I can see, this is an excellent management team, and the continued successful roll out of new product development is justification enough for its high rating.I have held this stock for about a decade now, and it is easily my most successful investment. I don't have BB20's skills in buying and selling, I just leave it alone.
Re: Prelim Results Hi Games investorYour post has reassured me that I am not in the throes of early dementia. Most posters on here are probably very long term investors and do not post very often. When I do post which is only occasionally it's on the ACTA board which is the board of a defunct company which had a very clever patented hydrolyser for producing hydrogen from water. It attracted an interesting collection of people who wanted to stay in touch after it failed. III suggested that the simplest way of doing this was to continue using the board..This we have continued to do this for several years and it gives us the scope to cover a wide range of investments, strategies and individual companies. We have occasional competitions for model portfolios. The approach to investing covers technical and fundamental analysis and everything in between. Most of us use hybrid approaches and vary them according to the investment under consideration. I would guess most of use technical analysis when taking buying holding or selling. We share some of our research and ask each other questions. There are many more readers than frequent posters. Some of you might like to sample the board and share your ideas and experience with us.Some of you might like to consider discussing AMS on this board.23Jez
Re: Prelim Results Goodwill arising from foreign currency acquisitions is subject to revaluation under IFRS, so I can only conclude that the increase in goodwill is due to the weaker pound. There is no mention of acquisitions apart from one they pulled the plug on.
Re: Prelim Results Goodwill up by some £6 million, can anyone provide a simple explanation for that?ws
Re: Prelim Results "he accounts are the worst set I have seen with IAFS rubbish but no understanding of the business incl why has goodwill gone up simply spelt out"I think I can understand what this group of words is trying to convey :-I assume "he accounts" -- is supposed to mean "The accounts" or the accounts as set out by AMS.When you categorise "worst", what are you comparing it with -- "Jarvis, or HMV" for example?IAFS Rubbish -- I'd also be interested to see what the actual interpretation of rubbish is!!"Goodwill" -- yes it's important to look at this, but where in the figures presented in these preliminary statements have you seen a horror story as regards goodwill?Cash -- one of the most important aspects of AMS is that not only has the company grown it's real term revenues in every single region, even discounting Forex benefits -- it's grown it's cash balance from £34M to £54M in one year.I wish all of my investments read so poorly. The only slight negative you might point to is a 150 basis points (ridiculous measure in itself - 1.5% is good enough), but this still retains an operating margin of over 23% and that is very healthy in the face of respectable growth in the regions that require investment.Games -- Oh well there's no accounting for sentiment I suppose -- Onward and upward -- I might add to this again on pull backs. As was once quoted - "too much of a good thing can be wonderful"
Re: Prelim Results Please could you explain the reasons for this judgement for those of us who would not immediately think this is the case. I ask this as a genuine request. These boards are for discussion. I am from scientifically based discipline and understanding in my field is based on the interpretation of evidence not categorical statements without reference to specific facts on which they are based.I am sure others on this board would value it, if you could expand on your statement so we can have an intelligent discussion. We all know financial statements can be misleading and part of our learning curve as self directed investors need to understand why as you suggest, is the case, with this financial statement.Thanks23Jez

Re: BB20 250p beckoning As retired doctor I agree its a fabulous share with excellent products and an expanding market; unless some one discovers a cure for those with obesity and cardiovascular disease and the depredations of old age. When the price plummeted I did some research to see if a serious competitor had emerged. I did not find one. It seems therefore that Buffet's moat is still in place or as Porter would say it still has significant competitive advantage. I sold my holding and bought back in at my original entry price,If this board was more active we would be able to pool any research we do. Obviously people who own this share have better things to do than use the board as a general social media venue, as happens on many boards. The healthcare sector as a whole is very lucrative but it is very difficult to identify potential stars, unless you have a whole research team. The was an excellent program on Bloomberg's Charlie Rose 6.00pm on cancer covering new developments clinical trials and the difficulty patient have in getting the correct diagnosis and treatment. What do you think? 23Jez
Re: BB20 250 beckoning Agree with your last sentence re quality of AMS. Think the results will be very good especially in relationship to the difference between the £ and the $, Should help the profit margin ( hopefully )
Re: BB20 250p beckoning Hi Pete44.Good to see that there are still a few of us here ready to swap opinions about AMS. It is odd that such a success story should remain largely unsung by its many supporters. Perhaps it's the doubts and worries and the nail biting that result in a stream of posts, while a feeling that things are going well may not prompt many people to sit up and reach for their keyboard. As you say, I now have my wish. However, I must confess that arriving at Camp 250 ahead of the prelims on March14th, was something I had not been expecting. We have to conclude that there are many investors who are expecting good news on Tuesday and who have wanted to be on board before the prelims and FY results. Without doubt, there are also those who will jump ship once their percentage gains are realised, perhaps in early trading on Tuesday. That may trigger a fall in the SP, however good the preliminary results. The tranche of shares that I bought some five weeks ago, when the SP stood below the 200 day moving average, was sold off in part today at 244 and then at 247.75 for gains of 22% and 24%. Common sense, I decided, was the better part of valour. I still have a third of the tranche to unload on Monday or Tuesday or else to add to my main holding, which by value is far and away the largest asset in my portfolio. I would have no difficulty in reducing my AMS share holding to reduce risk but would need first to find myself an alternative company with the same growth potential and quality of management. BB20
BB20 250 beckoning You have your wish, hopefully to continue up to the 14th. results
Upwards and onwards? Only two weeks to prelims (14th March). I am expecting the SP to move up as we approach Tuesday the14th. Somewhere in the 220s would do and certainly make pleasant reading--of course, the closer to 230p the better. Where we go then will then depend on the quality of the results, though prelims are an early account of the year's trading and necessarily a touch cautious and constrained. However, the shape of things to be announced in the final report probably in very early May will be plain to see. Really good projections might well put us back on course to continue the trend and re-test the last highs, with 250p beckoning from the next hilltop. BB20
Re: good news coming? AMS is pure quality, the shares are worth 250p+ when comparing with other quality stocks, thus a rise to 250p+ is unavoidable. IMHO,ws
