Re: Clearly the bottom Nothing is a one way bet! " Interest rates cannot fall can they! " Oh yes they can! Or have you missed the news about negative interest rates on the other side of the Channel?...When rates do start to increase, it will be 0.25% at a time and it will be years before they get to even the heady heights of 3%.
Re: Clearly the bottom It may be speculation but it is a strong emerging view in the market. It may be speculation but it IS a one way bet.Interest rates cannot fall can they!
Re: Clearly the bottom " Probably interest rates are on the rise " Wild speculation if ever there was any!

Re: Clearly the bottom Topped up at 453.
Re: Clearly the bottom The brokers dont seem to think it is the bottom. Lre is down quite a bit as well. I'm going to hold off for sub £4 .
Re: Clearly the bottom HydrogenLike you I do not chase takeover targets but in my case because I am not smart enough. I have been fortunate that both Brit and Catlin have gone at a premium but unfortunate that I have lost two good stocks from my portfolio?I like insurance which accounts for around 50% of my investment but over the years have seen a number of these holdings swallowed up by the big boys, all having to compete.I really don't have any idea or view on future targets I was merely curious as to the reasons for the fall in the sector.
Re: Clearly the bottom IATTDo you think that the prospects of mergers have significantly reduced or gone or is it just the after party excitement that gone out of the sector with more prospects to come?I have no feel for this, I generally don't chase takeovers, just try to buy what I think are good value stocks and if someone chooses to make an offer like Catlin which I was holding, then fine. My holding in AML is just that, a judgment of value against the risk of probable fall in EPS. H2
Re: Clearly the bottom Possibly this could be a response to the fading prospects of a bank rate rise?
Re: Clearly the bottom Is it possible these type of stocks are just returning to reasonable levels after rising sharply in the wake of the Catlin and Brit takeovers.
Clearly the bottom I think
Div dodged Have bought back the 25% I sold pre-Div. around 460p bit above my 450p target but still gives a 70p benefit whist foregoing a 34p total div. so was worth the effort even after George or his successor has had it away with his cut of the CG Often seems to work that way with big payouts, often suspect that it is due to TA driven investors reacting to a dip like one of Pavlov's dogs salivating at the sound of a bell ringing, even when anyone can see that it's only the postman delivering a dividend check, but who's complaining.Feels like AML is now pretty sound value, with a 5.8%+ yield even discounting specials. If it does drop below 450p, and I wouldn't rule that out, I think I'll be in for some more. H2
Re: Price Both are right ....III adjust the price by the amount of the divy and give the stock an artificial closing price. Then on Ex Div day the sp can trade relative to its adjusted divy price. In this case, at the mo, AML is down by a couple of percent on the adjusted price.Hope that all makes sense.HnL
Price III have Amlin down 2% while Barclays and Hargreaves Lansdowne have it down over 8%. Which s right?
Price The price on III suggests a drop of about 2% but is much steeper, over 8% on both Barclays and Hargreaves Lansdown. What is going on?
