price just spiked Price rise above 172 looks bullish. I've entered long with a stop below 166. Short term at least there may be some buying. Short covering or bargain hunters, doesn't really matter if the price goes up
7 to be chopped ""The seven companies being discontinued are Biotectix, Cephalogics, CryoXtract, Novare Pharmaceuticals, Optio Labs, RF Biocidics and Tinnitus Treatment Solutions.""The last one has a real ring to it -- all seem to be biotech.Maybe this is the right thing to do, but a CEO change and a capital raise prior to such an announcement is a little bit naughty to say the least. These 23 -- look like reducing to 17 -- [link] of these are biotechs. Given that their target products were known at the initial investment stage, why have they only now come to the conclusion that they would not be profitable therefore could not now deserve extra funding -- perhaps that statement by the company means they are also going to be difficult or impossible to sell (one of the options). If I had wanted to try to sell one or more of these I would not put a statement like that into the press.[link] -- This could go bust
Short term noise [link] term noise at Nothwest Biotherapeutics has lost $180MShort term noise lost multiple millions at Rolls RoyceShort term noise lost multiple millions at CapitaShort term noise lost multiple millions at Centrica and .........Personally I like the idea of avoiding short term noise, it's much better for your long term wealth!!Perhaps there are a few areas that you can adopt to avoid short term noise :-like high debt, unquoted companies, risky biotech start ups, start ups that should be applied only to Patient Capital Trust fund and not an Equity Income Fund, companies with low profit margins, companies with no profit margins, companies with a negative ROCE -- perhaps other simple criteria? But then again, I'm not an expert fund manager so my silly comments don't really deserve much air time I suppose!!Games -- Statistically most venture cap investments fail - statistically most biotech companies lose money -- lottery tickets often don't pay out either. Well there's always the long term I suppose.
What price? I suspect its even lower than today's close at 185p but WDIK, relieved I didn't buy for a bounce at 250p yesterday. Credit Suisse, as reported by Markets Live on FT Alphaville (a sometimes useful and free daily blog between 11-12am if you don't know it), who placed new equity in December 2016 at 367p (Woody scooped up 4m shares I think) say on a blue sky scenario the stock could be 4 times EV at 550p or on a grey sky scenario at 0.5 times EV 80p, toss a coin? I might buy a few c100p if they see it.
Woody's lost it! Woodentop has just issued a new blog post entitled "A great time to be investing in equities".Well, up to a point, Lord Copper! It depends on which equities one chooses to invest in.LKH on the flybridge
Re: Aaaaaaiiieeeee!!! Eamann555,"Chris Silva picked a good time to bail"Pity he wasn't good at picking biotech stocks, eh?Y'know, shipm8es, what put me off Allied Minds was its damnfool logo. My labrador could draw a better logo. It looks like an angry three year old child's first effort with a crayon. If the new CEO raver Jill wants to do summat useful at the start of her interim tenure she could do worse than ball that logo up, hurl it into the nearest waste paper bin, and start again.LKH on the flybridge warbles Kenny Rogers' Lucille
Re: Aaaaaaiiieeeee!!! There must be some inside trading going on, share price falling from around 305 to 250 in the days before the announcement.Chris Silva picked a good time to bail
Re: Aaaaaaiiieeeee!!! And they say funds and markets are regulated???How can you label something an equity income fund and load it with venture capital funds, because that is what Allied Minds is, and non profitable, non income bearing biotech stocks, some that are unquoted on any exchange?Games - regulation my arxe -- the best way to regulate is to buy some stocks yourself.
Re: Poor old Woody! Cudnt,"Admittedly I am down 13% with his other fund"Just remember the old proverb, m8:"God is with those who are patient ... if they are patient."LKH on the flybridge the Scottish patient

Re: Any idea what's causing this downwar... There must be something happened in the past month though, to precipitate this fall.Maybe the Insiders see the writing on the wall which is why Chris Smith the CEO left.I have a feeling there is some inside trading going on and in a few days or weeks time they'll put out a terrible statement or update
Re: Poor old Woody! He got Tesco spot onHe was selling while Warren Buffet was buying,
Re: Poor old Woody! Cudnt,"you keep calling woody"And I'm calling Woodentop once more today, m8. ALM is down AGAIN ...big time ... LOL!Woody is a one trick pony ... Buy and hold Big Tobacco and Big Pharma is his mantra ... all the rest is chust pure joss, my humble.Don't get me wrong; I admire his success and the humungous amount of wedge that he has made hisself on the back of his one idea. I expect I'm just jealous of the crop-haired thug but all the adulation and fan worship he gets is rather overblown in my view. Terry Smith is a far better stock picker.[link] on the flybridge tracking steadily east
Re: Poor old Woody! LK you keep calling woody but I am up 30% with his income fund.Admittedly I am down 13% with his other fund but ey swings and roundabouts.
