Re: Strong buy They've been haemorrhaging money for months now with investors dumping out. Performance recently is way down on their sector. So, the way I see it is that Acorn keep a big discount to try and dissuade more holders from selling out and at the same time trying to attract buyers with a nice discount. If there were a vote now I'd certainly wind em up if I could get anything near the NAV.
Re: Strong buy Yes of course they are down 12% since June.Uncle Doug, they were over priced by that much then!Looks like investors are buying today, probably to qualify for 3.25 dividend, due end of March
Re: Strong buy Hi Uncle Doug, have sold my holding of STB, also held by AIF, for 170% profit. Can you recommend something better?
Re: Strong buy For some reason there was a surge in buying last year pushing the NAV around 10% higher than the asset value. I suspect that this has left a lot of disillusioned buyers (Uncle Doug?) who are now jumping ship. As long as the NAV keeps going up I'll shall hold and collect my divi every quarter.Make no mistake this stock will follow the stock market down but that's about as volatile as it will get.I have added 1k lately,
Re: Strong buy The puzzle for me is why it is trading at such a massive discount to NAV. Is there a liquidity problem somewhere in the portfolio?I think I read somewhere that there will be a 'continuation' vote sometime in 2016. If the fund is then wound up, presumably the investors would then recoup something like the underlying value...?
Re: Strong buy Obviously this is a very volatile fund given it's recent performance - not a safe haven at all. Almost anybody could have picked better stocks than this fund over the last year or so. At a time when most UK indices are a shade off their all time highs this fund is down 3% in 3 mths, down 12% over 6 mths and down 22% in a year. Even year to date in 2015 it's down 5%. All quite awful considering the FTSEs performance.Only the most risk addicted contrarian would rate these a Strong Buy under such results. I'm a long term holder but beginning to lose patience as I can't see any "green shoots" of a recovery. I will dump these very soon if the malaise continues. You'd think the only way is up but Acorn keep proving they can keep heading down. RIP John McClure.
Re: Strong buy Added am today at 289p but trade not showing, next divi due end of March . I hope all my praise for this fund is justified!go to www.unicornam.com/Acorn.asp for latest info on this fund
Strong buy I have tracked Acorn for months and have just purchased for the first time.
Re: predictions Hi Uncle Doug, you've gone very quiet, does this mean that you have accepted the fact that this is a well run fund and in fact did not "tank" but became over valued.?With 20-30% of the fund in fixed interest securities 36% in good performing companies and a yield of 4.8% this is now, in my view, a strong buy,
Re: predictions Yield at current price 4.8% and NAV still going up adding at 290 and buying MANX
Re: predictions I've only been tracking for 5 years, I bought STB in 2012 and I'm showing a profit of 172%.It is my view that 380p per share price AIF it rose to was unjustified as is todays low price of £296.
Re: predictions Yes they have had some failures like we all have! I mean at one time when they topped the "best income trust" list they only out returned the one in 2nd. place by 70%+10 other shares that I have been tracking and where in their top 10 list at one time or another have average are now showing an average increase of 95%I'm temp to buy but I'm looking at one of their recent purchases MANX
Re: predictions <<<ACL 4.1% - + 21%. STB 4.1% + 270%. PHP 40% + 20% BRNS 3.5% +156%. TYMN 3.3% +208%. BPI 3.3% +91% >>>Over what time period are these stellar rises that you quote? AIF has tanked over the last year so they must also be heavily invested in some real dogs to counteract these star performers.
Re: predictions Share price started to drop I believe because of the death of the fund manager, who was very highly regarded - see chart showing sharp drop in June - for a short while the share price was higher than the NAV. know it as settled down to a discount to NAV higher than it has ever been despite an increase in dividend. I don't know why this is but historically share price was always lower than NAV until recently. This fund as consistently been the best performing income fund in the past. I been buying from 60p upwards. AIF has a regular continuation vote I believe the next one is in 2016, If the vote was to wind up the fund then I'm fairly sure you would get a return nearer to the share price than the NAV
Re: predictions Thanks for this. So why in Nav so heavily discounted Im down 10 to 15%.
