Re: Broker forecast wow .. so despite the share being 1449p they forecast a rise / decline from 710p to 730p ????I know this share can be fluctuate at times but i have noticed that whenever it is on a rally , it is quite strong.
Re: Broker forecast Not from that Broker is its Deutsche.Deutsche appears to hate AHT for some reason and must have cost their clients so much money over time with duff recommendations.
Broker forecast ``So I'm assuming the broker forecast is a typo and should be 1,730 and not 730 ????
Re: Sold some advice sought Thank you for that and much appreciated. Some I had thought of and I tend to agree about holding cash to exploit any significant volatility which could well arise over the next 6 months or so. Also I agree with you pension sentiments.Ashtead is in my view still a great investment and represents around 50% of the portfolio which is a bit more comfortable!
Re: Sold some advice sought EoAWell done on a great investment.I don't presume to advise, but I feel the current mve against the so called bond proxies in anticipation of higher interest rates is creating some good value opportunities. Top of that list is Unilever, solid growth Co. I have added a few but think may well fall further before returning to trend. Another on that list NG. solid utility with good dividend - possibly still a bit overvaued but always carries a premium due to lower risk of regulated business.Other area I have bought into of late is Life/Financials LGEN, PRU, SL & RSA. On my DCF calcs-based on forecast growth, these are near top of the value list for me. The change in regulations and trend for Companies to offload pension liabilities (as RR did to LGEN last week) will support profits short to mid term, Long term they are best placed to value and manage the risks they take on, certainly better than say RR and rising interest rates when they happen should reduce the deficits. Anyway I would expect good gains before any fall-out in long term pension liabilities they take on. I sympathize with people who have lost pension value due to the likes of Maxwell and Greene but it emphasizes the need for us to take responsibility for our own pensions. Plenty of areas of potential value created post Brexit- I think UK Constructiion/Engineers will benefit from a boost in infrastructure spend (as AHT has done in US), I hold CLLN, GFRD, ATK and watching AMFW as a possible recovery play. Clearly these carry fair risk.I also suspect that carrying a chunk of cash to be able to buy in the event of a significant correction would not be a bad position at present.Good luck whatever you choose to doH2
Sold some advice sought Decided these would fall back and with over 80% in one company it was time to take something off the table. Sold one third of the holding at 1402. Looking for investment advice! Or is it wise to hold cash?
Re: Deutsche Bank Trumped Even I am seriously considering selling a third of the holding and swallowing the tax hit. After all it will still be a higher net figure than 12 mths ago. I am slightly surprised by the sudden and firm rise.
Re: Deutsche Bank Trumped I understand the CGT worries but remember my mum hanging on to what was 50k of Natwest/RBS shares 'cause she didn't want to pay it......tax tail wagging the investment dog..beware.Took profits today as it's looking a bit toppy...will buy in later as usual if it settles down again.
Deutsche Bank Trumped Like it or not, Trump has his finger on the levers of power (and more worryingly, also on the buttons). Given his claims that he will fix America's crumbling infrastructure with a much bigger programme than Hillary proposed. It is maybe not surprising that AHT outperformed yesterday, but an 11+% rise is remarkable. It must have come as a surprise to Deutsche Bank who only a week ago issued another sell rating, they just keep hitting the nail...right on the thumb. We need to see what Trump actually plans on infrastructure, wall building or otherwise and presumably although Congress is firmly Republican, I imagine more big Government spending is not what the right wing dominated party want so unclear how easy he will find it to get approved, but I imagine less difficult than Hillary would have found and what Trump has described sounds more like a PPP type approach with tax credits and private investment. The wall, is an MMP scheme (Make Mexico Pay) so no issues there. Anyway, in the glass half empty tradition, my sympathies to those who are nursing a bigger CGT headache after yesterday's rise.We had the Arab spring, with Brexit and Trump are we now seeing an Anglo Saxon Summer? The Arab spring doesn't seem to have gone too well, could we see maybe a fundamentalist remainer faction declaring London and parts of the home counties a Europhile Camiphate...H2
RNS Nice to see ASH up again this-morning when much of the board shows red. Why? I guess it's the trading update and Investor Event to be webcast this-afternoon at 2.00pm.[link] link I post is to the RNS feed at The Daily Mail's "This is Money" website where I keep my virtual portfolio. My real portfolio with my Broker (TD) does not flag up RNS or SMW info, and would require me to dig into the files of each of the stocks I hold and click news(about 50!).Thanks to all at Ashtead.~John~
Re: Projections & Trump ! all numbers from ADVFN financials tab.ratios are from a spreadsheet I use.
Re: Projections & Trump ! thanks everyone .. all useful advice
Re: Projections & Trump ! thanks John , i like the idea of allocating 10% to higher risk stocks.
Re: Projections & Trump ! Near term I'm also looking at 1500, then re-assess.Edgecourier - Not sure where you got your numbers from Net Debt to PBT 3.1 timesNet Debt to EBITDA 1.7 times (within their target range 1.5 - 2) For me the only thing holding the SP back is the lack of Cash (or lack of retention of cash). I read we are moving into a lower investment cycle so hopefully we will see a bigger cash float (MCAP 6.5Bn Cash 13m)
Sell signal Please ignore the sell signal. I am at a loss to know how it was triggered. It must have been a fat finger!
