Re: Aberdeen in bed with Standard Life? In 1968 General Electric Company merged with English Electric Company . Arnold Weinstock was alleged to say about the merged name "take the first word from GEC and the second word from EEC" !!How long did BP Amoco last before it became BP again ?12 months from now it will be Standard Life Group IMO.
Re: Aberdeen in bed with Standard Life? So, assuming it all goes through, I wonder what the name of the new group will be: Standard Aberdeen Group (not sure I want to be involved with SAG) Standard Aberdeen LifeAberdeen Standard.Or something completely new?
Re: Aberdeen in bed with Standard Life? Yes, I think the Romans got a bit cocky with the offside rule up front which Hannibal promptly ignored and went wide in a 'crescent' manoeuvre and wrapped them up. Back at HQ, things looked a bit grim so they appointed Fabius Maximus. He realised it was a probably a better idea to use brains rather than brawn and sent out skirmishers to frustrate the Carthaginian forces with kiss and run tactics until they became so confused they lost the plot, got bored and turned to looting and other petty demeanours before being finally kicked out. The Romans got their own back in an away match on North African turf under Scipio 'Africanus' who shamelessly adopted their tactics and promptly beat them at their own game. Funny old world.Back on topic, do the cracks in the 'granite city' stop there or is this a sign of wider issues I wonder?F1
Re: Aberdeen in bed with Standard Life? Yes, the Romans learned the lesson that an army has only one master. The German generals were greatly handicapped by the interference of the supreme commander in the bunker.I hope that STAB does win the war, for me it starts with a £2K deficit.
Re: Aberdeen in bed with Standard Life? "Sure, the boy Hannibal done good in that battle, but who won the war, eh?"---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- --------The bloody Germans!

Re: Aberdeen in bed with Standard Life? Hardboy: it is indeed, The experience of Cannae scarred the roman psyche for hundreds of year and to this day it ranks as on of the greatest defeats of all time.
Re: Aberdeen in bed with Standard Life? Proverbs, What's the Biblical Quote? Man can not serve 2 masters?
Re: Aberdeen in bed with Standard Life? Agree with Hardboy on this.Short term gain is not what this is about, assuming no other company becomes involved and upsets the party.Cost savings and a diluting of possible continued depression of emerging markets makes perfect business sense. This could be boring for recent ADN purchasers like me who were trying to call the bottom but on balance should lead to a more mature investment.Standard Aberdeen is a good name but the STAB association could knock that on the head.
Re: Aberdeen in bed with Standard Life? Yes the roman legions at the battle of Canae (216 BC) had two commanders and we all know how that turned out!
Re: Aberdeen in bed with Standard Life? My view is you're thinking a bit too short term. From a business sense the merger makes a lot of sense - there should be a lot of savings in overheads by combining the 2 groups; and Aberdeen exposure to emerging markets will be dampened. The combined group should be more successful than the 2 parts separate (provided it is run properly - 2 CEOs sounds like a recipe for disaster.)
Re: Aberdeen in bed with Standard Life? I agree. 1 ADN for .757 SL. = less shares and a lower dividend yield
