High Street H&M have posted bad results on top of House of Fraser closing many stores all over - the high street is going to be a very different place unless some new ideas come in to fill those huge spaces. Feel quite nervous about Primark and whether they can hold their own in this climate.
Today's trading update was good ABF… XXXXX I topped up here on FTSE correction Feb 8th 2018 ( FTSE fell to 6921 ) On reflection this share has sort of mirrored the FTSE which climed back and went just above all time 12th January 2018 highs of 7778 on May 18 2018. The fall continued to a low 26 March 2018, I should of waited for bottom ?
Broker Upgrade Broker HSBC reiterates BUY , TP up from 3350 to 3700 (15/5/18).I think HSBC are maybe a bit OTT and I'd settle for 3200.With testing of January highs recently at 28xx (from 24xx) and then a pause for breath to drop down to 2703, these are a good price for further upward momentum. In addition the company update that there will be accelerated profit in 2nd half and weaker pound for extra overseas earnings makes these a very tempting Buy IMO.GLA
UK retail Feel uneasy about UK retail at the moment. Drifting down slowly. What does anyone else think?
Re: NEW ARTICLE: Brighter times ahead at AB ... The Editor point out that " the current market consensus of the shares as a 'strong buy' being a reflection of potentially brighter times ahead." this being driven primarily by Primark. The 23% fall off in SP from October high IMO makes for a buying opportunity. Interim results have down well with market.
NEW ARTICLE: Brighter times ahead at AB Foods? "Despite a sharp decline in LSE:ABF:AB Foods's half-year headline profit, the adjusted figure is far less painful as continued pressure on the Sugar business is more than offset by stronger contributions elsewhere. In particular, improving fortunes ..."[link]
Re: losses I suspect mostly generalised fear of bricks-and-mortar retail falling apart due to Amazon et al, along with poor results from other retailers such as Next, M+S etc.A large chunk of ABF's rise over the last few years has been due to Primark's expansion rather than the more prosaic businesses of supplying Brits with bread, Mexicans with oil, Aussies with meat and everyone with sugar (though the latter now appears to be in the cross-hairs of HMG and other governments).
losses This is the worst performing week of my SIPP which I've held for 2 years and ABF were always a sure steady earner - no more! What is going on!
Re: What is going on? [link]
Re: What is going on? There is general uncertainty and a lack of confidence in the retail sector. I can find nothing ABF specific. Last broker forecast was a 'hold'. Next interims 17 April. Seems a decent place for your money, though not yet truly cheap (PER = 17.6, PEG = 1.2, yield = 4%).
What is going on? Good figures. Directors buying shares. Brokers tipping them.....Share price falling. What is happening? I think it is a great company but why the sell off? Should I buy at this level?PS - they give nice party bags at the agm.
SP It's really frustrating when good news makes the SP go down !
Re: SP disappointing. Another fall today... Doubled up @£27 on what I see as good outlook from today's trading update. Lots of positives in the results on RNS.
