Re: New Highs The US voted for ban over the weekend. Of course I bought my shares on the previous Friday!

Re: Hmm! Ditto - This has the feel of the early 1970's about it. It seems like the end of the financial world is coming. But IMV when it turns, it will turn quickly. If it doesn't we will have a lot more to worry about. I kept a little cash in reserve. I like companies like 888, S & U and PCF; smallish companies with substantial shareholders and sound management. So I came back into 888 again as they could either bid for or do the bidding and in the meantime a 5% plus yield if income stands up which I think it will. Think they have had a pretty good day given what has been going on but beware of hubris.

Re: Hmm! You must be as optimistic as I am, DG. I keep thinking markets are going lower and lower on emotion not rationale; and that there is no real reason why shares (with the exception of a few sectors) are sinking so much, so I buy and markets continue to tank.

Re: Hmm! Back in today @164. I like it that there are large shareholders who value their company highly. Could figure either side of a bid. Great yield too if the payouts hold up.

Hmm! Sold these awhile back. Been watching the sp fall over the last few weeks. They will soon be a buy again.

New Highs I believe this is the highest closing price since 2006 before the US put a ban on online gaming. With all the carnage in the markets it's nice to have ONE share which is still performing well.

info Shares mag via alliance trust888 spins M&A wheelGambling operator eyes acquisition targets amid earnings upgradeEmily PerrymanOnline gambling group 888 (888) is well-positioned to consolidate the market through mergers and acquisitions following a strong second half for the £610 million cap. 888 lost out on its bid for Bwin.Party (BPTY) to its smaller rival GVC (GVC:AIM) in September, but says it is continuing to focus on a small number of possible targets. The group already has competitive advantages says its own proprietary technology and a limited reliance on third party suppliers. This means it can offer unique products, bring them to market quickly and sidestep the platform capacity constraints that affect other gambling companies. 888 says EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) for the year ending 31 December 2015 will be at the top end of analysts’ expectations, namely $78 million, due to strong trading in its casino and sports businesses. Full year EBITDA will still be 22.5% lower year-on-year due to the impact of the Point of Consumption tax. As well as being a consolidator, 888 could be a bid target for bookmaker William Hill (WMH). The £3.2 billion cap, which tried to buy 888 earlier this year, is set to lose market share following the announced mergers of Ladbrokes (LAD) with Gala Coral and Paddy Power (PAP) with Betfair (BET). Shares says: "Buy 888 at 179.5p as acquisitions and bid speculation add to an already attractive investment case. It has a strong forward dividend yield of 5.6% and is expanding in new markets which should drive long-term growth."

Re: Rise no idea but has seemed quite buoyant this week, maybe someone having another look at us again?!

Hardboy 03 Dec 2015

Re: 888 formal offer. Sorry - wrong board - they're adjacent in my portfolio - apologies.

Hardboy 21 Jul 2015

Re: 888 formal offer. It sounds to me as if this will be a very long protracted take-over. Can't go above 53.5% for 2 years, then can't go above 75% for another 18 months. So in 3.5 years Aveva may become Schneider's subsidiary.

Re: 888 formal offer. Seems to me that with the issuance of the new shares for Bwin, the Israelis will move from approx. 51% shareholders of 888 to 25% shareholders of newco. They will therefore no longer be able to block an acquisition and newco will be open to offers. Anybody confirm?
